It could be a long story why I didn't make it to our usual viewing spot with the family at the Kaysville Fireworks display Saturday night so I just won't tell it other than to say: don't put off your morning shower expecting to find time for it later. Later never came and by the time it was time to leave every move I made gave me a whiff of... of... well, you know. Ewww.
So, after a yummy BBQ dinner at Christine's (sit close to the BBQer and smells are disguised!), as I sat listening to conversation and looking at the weeds waiting for me across the street in the mulch beds I decided to get back to weeding. This has been an on-going project nearly every day for the past several weeks in preparation for a 're-fresh' layer of mulch. I continued working (street light can make a fairly decent work light depending on which area of the yard I'm working in) until it was nearly time for the fireworks to start. By the time I got things put away the boom-booms had started. Mom (for reasons she didn't disclose stayed home) had already set her chair just outside her car's garage and I found a spot closer to the church fence to view them. Part way throught I decided to grab my camera and see what kind of movie I could get.
TOO FUNNY!
We all know the speed of light is faster than the speed of sound, so delayed noises with each firework was expected and not an issue. What was weird is how much smaller they looked when played back on the camera. No zoom option in 'movie mode.' Okay, we're about a mile away (as the crow flies) from the fireworks and the 'real view' was acceptable but the noise of the crickets nearly drowned out the boom-booms!
So if you're bored and have nothing better to do, here's a really poor video of really tiny looking fireworks that weren't so tiny when viewed in real life from the same spot and a chorus of crickets that made me just want to laugh. The movie starts with a view to the west, the 3 static lights are at the church and I decide during a lull in the fireworks to pan to the rear parking lot and then realize the finale has started and whip back to fireworks (sorry 'bout that). At about the 2:00 minute mark you can even hear the music that accompanied the fireworks...plus the chorus of crickets.
Need a laugh? Enjoy.

Hey that's a pretty good view but it's much better close up and in person. There was a small breeze so you could have sat downwind of us and nobody would have noticed. We didn't wait long enough to come home and got caught in traffic. Took me 1/2 hour to get from our viewing spot over to 2nd north.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like Kaysville had a really good fireworks display. Not bad from faraway. I get a kick out of the sound delay. Happy 4th.
